What to expect during this guided walk
St Catherine’s Valley is an enchanting vale in the South Cotswolds. Starting at the quaint village of Batheaston near Bath, we’ll first follow the bubbling St Catherine’s Brook and stroll across the bottom of St Catherine’s Valley. At every twist and turn of the vale, we’ll discover the breathtaking scenery of the rolling Cotswold hills.
This guided walk then leaves the lush valley behind, climbs a very steep hill and takes you along country paths. From the top of the hill, we’ll enjoy glorious views of the enchanting vale. Dropping back down into St Catherine’s Valley, we’ll further enjoy the peacefulness and charm of the Cotswold vale. We’ll spot the picturesque village of St Catherine and the imposing St Catherine’s Court, before making our way back to Batheaston.
The St Catherine’s Valley guided walk is 7.7 miles long and takes 3 to 3 ½ hours with regular stops. We’ll walk across rolling fields and along country lanes. Throughout this guided walk, I’ll endeavour to share my passion and knowledge of the Cotswolds and St Catherine’s Valley. This Cotswold walk includes one very steep ascent, so you do need a good level of fitness to participate. Dogs on a lead are welcome.
How to get to St Catherine’s Valley
The guided walk starts at the village of Batheaston near Bath and explores the enchanting St Catherine’s Valley. We’ll meet at the kissing gate at the intersection of Steway Lane and Stambrook Park (BA1 7HW). The closest toilets, shops and pubs are located in the centre of Batheaston. If you’re driving, you can park along North End and Eagle Road (BA1 7HA).
From Bath, you can take the 3, 3A or X31 bus to Batheaston Stambridge (10 to 15 minutes), then walk from the high street to our meeting point (10 to 15 minutes).
