A tranquil walk in and around Wotton-under-Edge, this Cotswold walk explores the charming valley of Tyley Bottom and the breathtaking Tor Hill. This combined valley and hill walk offers fabulous views of Wotton-under-Edge, Tyley Bottom, the Frome Valley, the Cotswold escarpment, the Bristol Channel and Wales.

This Wotton-under-Edge walk starts at the quaint market town and first takes you along delightful country lanes and woodland paths to the valley of Tyley Bottom. This circular walk then leads you along quiet country roads and tracks to the top of Tor Hill. From there, you cross verdant fields back to Wotton-under-Edge.

The Wotton-under-Edge walk first follows a section of the Cotswold Way along town streets and country lanes. Surrounded by rolling hills and verdant fields, this country walk takes you along a delightful, bubbling stream and boasts splendid Cotswold scenery.

This Cotswold walk then leads you to the hamlet of Coombe, where you can spot the charming Coombe lakes as well as lovely country cottages and houses. You then follow an enchanting woodland path to Tyley Bottom. Along the way, you can catch a glimpse of the surrounding hills through the trees. You then emerge from the woodland and find yourself in the heart of a charming valley.

Enclosed on both sides by steep rolling hills and lush woodland, Tyley Bottom offers a peaceful escape to the beautiful Cotswold countryside. This country walk leads you across the bottom of the valley and through verdant fields. From there, you can enjoy the splendid scenery of the enchanting valley.

Enjoy breathtaking views from Tor Hill

From Tyley Bottom, you start the slow, steep and scenic ascent out of the valley and to the top of the hill. The further you climb along the woodland and country paths, the more splendid the views. The breathtaking scenery of the charming valley and the surrounding rolling hills unfolds before your eyes.

At the top of the hill, the Wotton-under-Edge walk follows a quiet country road with limited views. In the distance, you can spot the Tyndale Monument standing out against the backdrop of lush hills. This Cotswold walk then takes you past the concrete BT tower and the entrance to Newark House, and follows a section of the Cotswold Way along a delightful country path. From there, you can enjoy lovely views of Tyley Bottom and the Cotswold hills.

You then reach the top of the breathtaking Tor Hill and the scenery unravels at your feet. Tor Hill boasts spectacular views of Wotton-under-Edge, the Cotswold escarpment, the Frome Valley, the Severn Vale, the Bristol Channel and Wales.

This country walk then leaves the Cotswold Way behind and starts the steep descent through various fields and down woodland paths. At the bottom of the hill, you reach the outskirts of Wotton-under-Edge, where you can admire further lovely views of the rolling Cotswold countryside and the market town. You then cross one last verdant field and make your way back to the town streets.

Tyley Bottom & Tor Hill walk itinerary (with map)

1. From Potters Pond car park, turn left onto Potters Pond road. At the war memorial, turn right onto Coombe Road, then take the second road on your right (Valley Road), following the signs for the Cotswold Way. At the fork, veer left and continue along the road to the path.

2. Follow the path along the stream and at the road, turn right, then immediately left, still following the signs for the Cotswold Way. Go through the gate onto the road and turn left, then immediately right down Tyley Bottom road. At the footpath sign, turn left onto a footpath hugged by shrubs.

3. At the second kissing gate, turn right onto a woodland track and at the end of the track, go through the gate on your left. Cross the field, following the man-made path and staying in the bottom of the valley. Go through the gate and over the wooden bridge, following the footpath signs and keeping the woodland to your left.

4. At the third ridge in the field, veer right up the steep hill and towards the woods, following the man-made path. Go through the gate into the forest and follow the steep path. Go through the following gate into the field and continue uphill, following the footpath signs and veering left up the track.

5. Go through the gate at the top of the track and continue straight ahead along the track. At the junction, turn right onto the road. At the fork, turn right and walk past the BT tower, and at the next fork, veer right.

6. Turn left at the second track, then immediately right, following the signs for the Cotswold Way to Wortley. At the fork, veer right towards the wooden gate. Go through the gate and follow the man-made path.

7. When you reach the viewpoint, continue straight downhill, leaving the Cotswold Way behind. Go through the gate, veer left to the next gate and then continue straight ahead, keeping the field boundary to your left. In the next field, follow the man-made path through the field, then follow the downhill path between the shrubs.

8. Go through the gate and continue along the woodland path. Cross the road to Nind Lane and walk along the country road. Cross over the stile on your right and walk diagonally through the field to the right of the tall tree and towards the far end of the row of houses.

9. Cross over the stile to the side of the house and continue straight ahead along the path. Go through the kissing gate and continue along the path, keeping to the back of the houses. Go over the bridge and at the fork, veer right onto Water Lane. At the junction, turn left onto Dyersbrook, then right onto Potters Pond and make your way back to the car park.
